#1 Take a warm bath
We recommend you to take a warm bath before heading out to the salon. Taking a hot shower will help in opening up your pores and ease the process of waxing which gives an easy exit area for the hair to be pulled. This will make it less painful while the strip is being pulled. However, remember not to moisturise your body after the shower. The oils will clog your pores after seeping in and will prevent your hair from sticking to the wax. You can always hydrate your skin with aloe vera gel to soothe and moisturise your skin.
#2 Do not intake caffeine or alcohol before waxing
If you didn't know then, let us tell you that caffeine and alcohol are two such items that can make your skin even more sensitive and also tighten the pores of your skin. And, both these things will just end up adding more pain to you, while you are getting your wax done. So, it is suggested that you do not intake any caffeine or alcohol before your appointment. It is best to replace it with water, when in need of something to drink.
#3 Schedule your appointment before your periods' start
It is not suggested to get your waxing done a week before your periods start. Your pain tolerance level is quite low during this time hence it is suggested that you get it done after your monthly cycle is over. Your pain threshold is higher afterwards so it becomes easier for you to handle the process of waxing.
#4 Exfoliate your skin
Exfoliating your skin is a good way to get rid of all the dead skin cells that end up clogging the pores of your skin. It is therefore suggested that you exfoliate your skin before you head to the salon for a waxing session. This process will ensure that your pores are open and also removes the dead skin cells that trap your body hair (ingrown hair) making the process of waxing painful. Post-exfoliation, the removal of hair will be facilitated from roots and give you soft and smooth legs.
#5 Avoid undergoing any other skin treatment
In case, you are undergoing any skin treatment make sure you never get waxing done. This can cause you unbearable pain and can also leave scars on your skin. The situation can become worse if you are applying any alpha hydroxy acid-based creams (AHAs) or retinoid based ointments. Make sure to discuss it with your dermatologist first if you plan on doing it anyway.
#6 Never get waxing done over damaged skin
If you have a pimple, cut, burn or any other bruise on your body, then you should never plan for a waxing session. You have to let it heal first because the process of waxing on a damaged part can cause more pain to you.
