On the contrary to popular belief, it is extremely important to apply sunscreen even during winter season. As annoying as it sounds to apply the greasy sunscreen hour after hours even during winter seasons, it is important. No matter how thick the clouds are or how grey the skies are UV rays can still penetrate through them and affect us.  With the amount of competition going on between different skincare companies in the market,  their are new and better types of sunscreens that don't even make the skin greasy or clog the pores.

Coming back to why, first let's discuss some basics about the harmful sun rays and their effects. There are two types of UV rays, one is UVA which are strong enough to penetrate through windows and dense clouds and effect in the deeper layers of skin causing aging and increasing the risks of cancer. The second one is UVB rays which cause skin to burn and develop cancer.

Being said all that let's look into the reasons why we should apply sunscreen during winter season as well.

No matter what we think sun rays during winter season are as harmful as during summer season. Therefore the risk of cancer is not less.  UVA rays do not only make skin wrinkly but they also cause the development of cancer causing cells in the body. So applying sunscreen is a must. If you are lazy to massage the sunscreen into your skin after every hour or so you can always use sunscreens that can be sprayed all over the body.

Yes, as weird as it sounds you can get sunburned even during winter season. As surprising ass it sounds it is because of the fact that sun is closer to the surface f the earth during winter season and you cab get sun burned quicker in winters than summer. Therefore, every time you think about stepping out of the house during winters, do make sure to cover your skin with thick coating of sunscreen.
