Hoyu Product Trial

Due to the multiple dyes that I've used over the years, my hair has become very dry. So while I try not to bleach my hair too often, I love coloring my hair! When I signed up for this trial, my hair color looked washed out and my black roots already started growing out too. I've always had a preference for reddish tones and like magic, I was assigned the Base Up Bleach and Make Up Color in Wild Red.

I started with the Base Up Bleach and to my surprise, it wasn’t drying on my hair and man, did it give my hair the shiniest yellow I’ve seen! The instructions were clear and the products were easy to use. It smelled nice and the scent wasn’t overwhelming. In addition, the dyes didn’t cause any stinging to my scalp, which is really great for people with sensitive scalps. A great benefit of the applicator is that it has a comb tip, which makes it easy to apply the dye to our hair and reduces spillage.

 As I always wanted to try something different from the normal blonde or gold color that I usually go for, I was excited to see how Make Up Color in Wild Red would turn out. Because it’s a fashionable color, I knew it was gonna SLAY — no cap!

After bleaching my hair, I mixed the solutions for the Make Up Color. Upon application, my hair transformed really fast. It was vibrant and glossy! A great thing I’ve realised for both the Base Up Bleach and Make Up Color was that I do not have to wait for too long and the color came off really intense, which made the results fabulous.

I definitely had a hair glow-up. After the final wash, it was beautiful — I felt like Ariel the mermaid! My dazzling red hair complimented my skin and features. I loved that it made me look fresh and bougie! With such a vibrant shade, I looked especially good when I style my hair. Loving the vibes and how I’m seen as the lady with flattering red hair!

The first thing I noticed when I received the hair dyes was how eye-catching the box was. It got me excited to see the colors that I was assigned! The instructions found in the box were in Japanese but step-by-step instructional videos are available on Hoyu’s official YouTube Channel, which detailed how to properly mix and use their products. Anyway, the graphics on the instructions were simple enough to understand and the contents were also labelled in English and numbered. The box also doubles as a holder; there is a punch-in hole at the back that holds the bottle in place as you prepare the contents. First, I had to bleach my hair with Base Up Bleach, which contains 3 types of hair-protecting oils: Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil and Grapeseed Oil. One of my biggest gripes with home bleach kits is the smell. Most of what I’ve tried had nauseatingly strong fumes and I would have to make sure I was coloring my hair in a well-ventilated space so I wouldn’t feel light-headed. Beauteen’s products, however, didn’t have a strong smell.

They also didn’t leave a stinging sensation on my scalp. While the bleach seeps into the hair easily, it can be a little messy as the mixture is rather watery. It took me a while to get a hang of using the product. My hair lightened up significantly before 20 minutes was up and I shampooed twice with the pH controller, leaving it on for 3-5 minutes each time. I liked the smell of the pH controller! It has a light fruity sweet scent. I also used a conditioner before blow-drying my hair, which didn’t feel extremely dry or frizzy. I could comb the strands easily with my wet brush — my hair felt smooth and had a nice sheen to it. I then prepped my hair for Make Up Color in Metallic Ash by making sure it was semi-dried. I always thought I would need a clean platinum base color to get that nice ash shade. The mixing process is pretty much the same. The only difference is that the bottle had a single nozzle attachment while the nozzle from the bleach kit had a comb-like attachment. The dye smells nice and has the same consistency as the bleach. I started at my roots and let the product run down my hair. I also used a hairbrush to comb the entire length of my hair. The lower half of my hair had the lightest base as it was bleached before using these Beauteen products. Starting from the hair roots would also prevent the lower parts of my hair (with the lightest base color) from getting too dark. The mixture didn't lather too much and I proceeded to wash my hair after 15 minutes.

The shampoo given smelled lovely too; it had a light fruity scent. Applied the After Color Treatment and blow-dried my hair. I was sceptical at first but the color turned out great! While it was a little more bluish than grey, it was a really unique color! The Color Treatment pack could be split into 2 or 3 portions as they were very generous with the quantity. The blue pigment in the hair color slowly faded away with every wash and by the end of the week, my hair was more like the color on the packaging! The color is the truest at the 1-week mark and there were not many changes thereafter, which shows how well the color holds and last. My hair still feels soft and doesn’t dry out easily, even in an air-conditioned working environment. Overall, I’m very happy with the results and can’t wait to try the other colors available in the future.

I have super fine hair that was last dyed brown sometime in 2022 and I was down for a hair makeover. The look that I was assigned was pretty subtle except for a pink streak on one side of my head! First, I used Make Up Color in Pink Ash and applied the dye to my entire head. Then, I used the Base Up Bleach to bleach the streak before adding Point Color Cream in Cherry Pink. The instructions on how to use the dye were super straightforward and I also watched some tutorial videos on Hoyu's Instagram page as well just as a precaution.

I followed the instructions and dyed my hair with the tools provided. Since the Make Up Color dye contains sunflower oil and camellia oil, my hair felt soft and smooth throughout the entire process. I really appreciated that because I was worried that my hair would turn dry and frizzy the moment I dyed it. Since my hair color was pretty dark to begin with, the change was rather subtle.

I've never bleached my hair before this and I was a tad apprehensive about doing so. But the process was surprisingly similar to dyeing the rest of my hair, except that the Base Up Bleach came with a pH controller that helped to balance my hair's condition. It contains avocado oil, coconut oil, and grapeseed oil — nourishing ingredients that ensured that the texture of my hair didn't change. In fact, my hair was softer than before because I usually don't use such hydrating products. I was pleasantly surprised by the entire dyeing and bleaching experience because I've heard horror stories from my friends about how doing so would damage my hair. But my hair has never been in better shape because the Beauteen products were so nourishing. Plus, I also invested in color shampoo and conditioner to ensure that the color lasts for as long as it can! The best part is that since the Point Color Cream comes in a tube, I can easily reapply the dye to the bleached parts of my hair whenever necessary.

While the packaging may not be eye-catching enough to grab my attention on the shelves of a typical drugstore, the range of colors available is quite stylish! There are great options for those looking to add some flair to their hair. 

I would like to share my experience with this product, which I believe can be useful for others looking for a subtle yet stylish upgrade to their appearance. While I highly recommend the shampoo for its generous lather and pleasant fragrance, the leave-in treatment made my fine hair feel oilier and heavier, particularly in humid weather. Having said that, I appreciate that the dye did not have a strong odor. Overall, the coloring process was a pleasant experience.

Although I have utilized box dyes to color my hair, I have recently refrained from using them due to the damaging effects of the bleach, which lacks customization for varying hair types. Since I have fine hair, it is easily damaged. However, Hoyu Beauteen Make Up Color is a suitable alternative. The product did not result in any further damage to my bleached ends and did not cause any discomfort to my scalp. Overall, my experience with the Hoyu Beauteen Make Up Color was favorable. Although the color Pink Ash was not as vibrant as I had anticipated, it was accurately represented on the packaging. Moreover, the recommendation to reduce the waiting time for finer hair like mine allowed me to achieve the optimal outcome in terms of the color. Consequently, I am pleased to have discovered Hoyu's Beauteen Make Up Color and would recommend it to others in search of a gentle and effective coloring solution.

Since the box had Japanese wordings, I was slightly apprehensive initially. But the first thing I saw after I opened the box was an English instruction sheet! The different components of the bleaching process were clearly labeled and the instructions specified the time needed for each step. I was impressed by how they included details like bleaching the part near the scalp last as I never knew that was a thing. Also, I thought it was really cool that the gloves were attached to the instruction sheet that was in Japanese! I really liked the color I was assigned to. It's a gorgeous cobalt purple that I've always wanted to try but never did.

When I started mixing the solutions for the bleach, my cat came over to observe because it seemed interesting. Surprisingly, the bleach did not smell as toxic as other ones I've tried. The brush applicator that came attached to the developer bottle made the process a breeze and extremely convenient. Around 25 minutes after the application, I washed the product off as per the instructions and then used the pH controller provided in the box. It was less viscous than I expected and I squeezed out too much at first. Subsequently, I was able to portion it properly and the process went smoothly. After the bleaching process was complete, my hair was nice and blonde/orange — I liked that color too! Since my hair wasn't dry, I had to blow dry it. That was the toughest part of the process: partitioning my hair and tying it up exactly as I did the first time. I used aluminium foil to help to make sure the dye didn't get all over my table. That helped but it was still essential to line my table with plastic before beginning. The whole dyeing tube got stained purple as I touched it with my gloves.

After 20 minutes, I washed the dye off. While my hair was wet, the purple highlights were not really obvious. But after my hair dried, the color came out beautifully! It is a purple that is more reddish probably because my hair was not extremely bleached. Still, I think it is such a great color, especially since I didn't damage my hair, which honestly felt like it was in the same condition as before the dyeing. I was very pleasantly surprised. Since I was not very experienced at bleaching and dyeing hair at the roots, the hair near my scalp was bleached but not as purple because I feared staining my scalp. But that minor issue was easily fixed because all I had to do was top up those parts by squeezing more dye from the Point Color Cream tube after that.
