Smartphone selfies may be the default method of snapping photos now, but 80’s and 90’s kids would remember a time where mobile phones didn’t even have cameras - and squeezing as many people as we could into one tiny neoprint booth was how we got our group outing photos. Also known as purikura, derived from the term “print club”, this Japanese trend was hot among young couples in (puppy) love too, until more advanced technology came along to edge it out.

For the past few years, Singapore has sadly been devoid of neoprint machines, with even the last remaining ones at *SCAPE having disappeared. But it’s time to relive those carefree memories, for they’ve since made their much-anticipated comeback - and we’re not talking ‘bout those simple B&W photo booths either. Dollop Print Club has just launched theirs in various malls across the island, complete with cute stickers, drawing functions, and even GIFs!

Read on to find out more about neoprints by Dollop Print Club in Singapore!

If the name Dollop Print Club sounds familiar, they’re under the same company behind Dollop Automat Self Studio, a Korean-style photography studio that lets you snap pro-looking selfies using a remote control, sans photographer. While that gives you minimalist prints and requires bookings, Dollop Print Club provides a free and easy walk-in experience that packs on the kawaii - already telling from the exterior of their pink strawberry-themed booth.

Each round costs just $10 each, and gives you a 4R sticker print-out that can be split into 2 strips - or however many pieces you like, depending on the number of people you’re with.

Do come prepared with some posing ideas, as there will be a total of 8 poses for you to attempt, with placement shown in the image below.

In true blue neoprint fashion, you’ll get to choose cute borders, add stickers, and make doodles in a variety of colours and pen thicknesses! Designs include the adorable animal characters from local illustrator Jean Kuah of Mochi Buddies, along with hearts, clouds, and bubble tea-inspired motifs.

And because we’re now in a high-tech era, soft copies of your photos as well as a GIF will be included at no extra cost, all sent to you digitally via email. All the better for fuss-free uploading to your socials.

While these aren’t quite as high-level as the ones in Japan - which come with “auto-beautification” properties, the ability to change one’s hair and eye colour, sparkly effects, and a wider range of stickers and stamps - it’s still a good substitute for what we’ve been missing out on all this time, especially since it’ll be a while since we can next step into a plane.Payment can be made via cash or SGQR (QR code). Do note that no change will be given so you’ll want to arm yourself adequately with a couple of reds before heading down.
