There’s a perfume currently trending on Chinese social media, but unlike what you might expect, it’s not a luxury brand. This time, the object of many Xiao Hong Shu beauty junkies’ desire is an affordable pick from a brand called Shimang (诗芒), loved both for its wallet-friendly price point and aesthetic appeal.

Shimang (诗芒) has many different ranges of perfume, but the one that’s caught our eye comes in a frosted bottle with wooden cap. At first glance, these almost look like beverages, and that’s part of the whole appeal!

Each 50ml bottle is slapped with a minimalist label featuring watercolour-like illustrations representing their corresponding scents, and fits comfortably in one’s palm. It’s much larger than a mini perfume bottle, but more compact than a full-sized one, so it’s easily portable yet won’t run out too quickly. It’ll look great on any vanity table or work desk too!

It comes in the following fruity and floral scents:

  • Forest Letter (森林来信)
  • White Tea (云深茶白)
  • Cheese Peach (芝芝密桃)
  • Monet’s Garden (莫奈花园)
  • Jasmine Pear (茉莉蜜梨)
  • Orange Girl (甜橙少女)
  • Green Rose (绿意玫瑰)
  • Rainbow Beat (彩虹节拍)

There have been mixed reviews regarding these perfumes; A number of people find the fruity flavours overly sweet, while others have high praises for them, with some highlighting how the Peach scent smells just like the real fruit.

Across the board, it seems like White Tea and Monet’s Garden - a water lily fragrance that references the painter’s famous artwork -  are favoured for their subtle, classy, lady-like quality. We’re guessing those are less saccharine than the fruity versions.

One thing to note is that these perfumes are said to be light and don’t last too long on the skin and clothes, so it’s best suited for short days out, or for those who prefer their fragrance to fade throughout the day. Otherwise, you could always slip it into your handbag for quick touch-ups.

There are plenty of retailers on Shopee selling these Shimang perfumes, but we’ve trawled through the listings to find the most reputable-looking one with proper reviews here, where each bottle costs $6.02 and ships from Malaysia. Alternatively, you can also get it from ezbuy for just $2.99 at time of writing (U.P. $4.09), but shipping will take slightly longer as the products will be imported from China.
