SAM Has Newly Commissioned Artworks By Local Artists Including A Mahjong Mural For Photo Ops
Singapore Art Museum (SAM) has two newly commissioned artworks conveying the artists' thoughts and hopes for the future, and one of them is a mahjong mural that Singaporeans will surely love!
The artworks are displayed on the hoardings of SAM's heritage buildings as they seek to infuse art into life, so keep a lookout for them if you pass by.

Kray Chen, When the odd ones out get in

SAM brings art into our streets exploring themes relatable to everyday Singaporeans, and since mahjong is a household social activity, what better way to do so than to feature Kray Chen's When the odd ones out get in?
The artwork depicts a legendary winning hand in mahjong, known as "Thirteen Wonders", which is made up of the 13 least versatile and most discarded tiles.

This rare combination is made up of Wind, Dragon, Warrior, and Lone tiles - a demonstration of solidarity and the power of coming together for the better. When the odd ones out get in explores the concept of chance and randomness in situations that often seem beyond our control.

You can also obliterate the "CON" in the statement with limited edition stickers designed by Sam Lo. This is a thought-provoking move to show that the future may be uncertain, but the power to shape it lies in our hands. Stickers can be redeemed at the Queen Street hoarding till 12 September 2021, 12–2pm and 4–6pm.
