7 New Free Insta-Worthy Exhibitions, Installations & Displays In Singapore

Life doesn't have to be endless struggle between entertainment and saving money. There are seven new free Insta-worthy exhibitions, installations and displays in Singapore to fill up your calendar without spending a cent.

#1 Lap Lip 2021 at Malay Heritage Centre

From now till 30 June 2021, there will be a colourful light installation at Malay Heritage Centre: The Lap Lip installation. The structure is inspired by the architectural landscape of Kampong Gelam, with patterns inspired by Malay motifs designed by local artist Reza Hasni.

In the centre of the installation is a space for reflection, with soundscapes that transport visitors to the vibrant bazaars of past Ramadans.

#2 Cat Garden — A Tribute to Nature at Roger Vivier

This whimsical cat-themed installation at Takashimaya is also a showcase for Roger Vivier's spring/summer 2021 collection. The store will be decorated in a striking lime green and pink theme with florals and pink cats.

Inspired by his time surrounded by flora and fauna in Italy, Creative Director Gherardo Felloni brought bright and colourful floral patterns to the shoes, bags and accessories.

#3 The Sea Show at Singapore Maritime Gallery

The Sea Show is a vividly colourful exhibition filled with artworks, animations and installations about the ocean.

There are plenty of cool backdrops for photo ops and quirky details like a man carrying a shark on his back, a shark cafe installation and a whole collection of rubber duckies.

#4 The Gallop Extension at Botanic Gardens

Botanic Gardens recently opened an extension that boasts a nature playground, a cafe and two colonial-style buildings with galleries and installations.

The stunning buildings would make stunning photo backdrops on their own, but they also house botanical art and high-tech arboretum displays that look too good not to photograph.

#5 Paw-verbs on the Lawn at Kampong Gelam

The front lawn of Malay Heritage Centre has been turned into a cat lover's purr-adise with kawaii-style illustrated standees of cats by Japanese artist Mofusand.

There will be 30 large standees featuring cute cats in various situations from cuddling with a toy shark to wearing a yellow hat and randoseru backpack just like Japanese school kids do.

#6 Rewritten: The World Ahead of Us

Photo from Public Art TrustThis public art showcase with 14 larger-than-life installations runs along a 36km-long trail through eight parks from Punggol to Jurong.

Some highlights include the [ ] With Dual Possibilities by Vertical Submarine, a neon light installation shaped like an audio cassette at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, and BOND by Jerome Ng and Zed Haan, a towering structure/pavilion at Ang Mo Kio Linear Park incorporating a 4-part poem on strength and solidarity.

#7 Museum of Ice Cream Pop-Up at Design Orchard

Tickets to the real Museum of Ice Cream exhibition in Singapore are priced from $38, but those who aren't ready to commit to that yet can get a taste of it at Design Orchard for free.

There's a bright pink lifeguard tower installation for photo ops as well as a rooftop filled with pink palm trees.
