New Crayon Shinchan x Kumoya Pop-Up Cafe In Singapore Has Hilarious Themed Food & Drinks
Kumoya is back with another kawaii themed cafe coming this May! Going in a different direction from their usual Sanrio and San-X collabs, they're giving the cafe a new look and menu themed after the iconic manga character Crayon Shin-chan.

Opening its doors on 5 May 2021, the new Crayon Shinchan x Kumoya pop-up cafe is taking over the previous Molang-themed cafe.
Gone are the animated rabbit motifs, and plastering the walls, tables and ceiling are Shin-chan's animated world and him going about his antics.

The menu also features a range of Shinchan-inspired dishes designed in collaboration with kawaii food artist Shirley Wong (aka @littlemissbento). And as expected, some of the food and drinks will pay homage to Shin-chan's famous running gag of pulling down his pants to reveal his bottom.
We started on a good note with the Chill-To-The-Max Pomodoro MeatBalls Pasta ($23.90). This pasta exceeds themed cafe standards by a mile, with a strong tangy tomato flavour and a generous portion of juicy meatballs.

It Ain't Heavy - It's My Pancakes ($26.90) was almost too cute to destroy. Strangely, the pancake "weights" were more moist and buttery than the pancakes Shin-chan was standing on. It reminded us a little of McDonald's breakfast pancakes.

The chicken had a lovely crispy texture but was on the dry side. We weren't sure if the lemon sauce was meant for the pancakes or chicken. But either way, we recommend giving it a taste before dousing your food in it - it has an unusual taste that not everyone will like.
The first butt-themed menu item we tried was the So Mischievous Japanese Seafood Curry Rice ($26.90). Putting taste aside, this dish is worth ordering for the giggles that'll ensue and the many creative Instagram captions one can flex.

The sweet Japanese curry isn't spicy at all so kids can order it too. The deep fried seafood were well battered and great on its own or dipped in the curry sauce.
There's also one more main dish we didn't get to try, Shiro And The Lucky Stars Ebi Burger ($24.90).

For snacks, we went with our two tried-and-tested favourites: Golden Sweet Potato Fries ($12.90) and Karaage Chicken with Shoyu Sauce ($14.90). Kumoya has been consistently delivering with these two side dishes!
The other snacks on the menu are Hand-cut Nacho Cheese Fries, Hand-cut Truffle Fries and Teriyaki Chicken Sticks. One new addition special to this Shinchan pop-up cafe is the Star Hash Brown with Sweet Potato Mochi Balls ($12.90).

There are three desserts for you to finish your meal on a high.
Kumoya's cakes tend to be a tad too sweet for our liking, so we skipped the Shinchan Fuji-san Chiffon Cake ($21.90) and ordered the other two desserts.

The most anticipated menu item is the Relaxing Onsen Pudding Parfait ($22.90). It's served with dry ice which mimics the effect of steam from the hot onsen water.
Surprisingly, the meringue cookie "rocks" and Shinchan's "butt" didn't have much flavour to them, and the main highlight was the moist matcha cake and fruits underneath.

The pudding booty was not as jiggly and has a rather firm texture. We resorted to smacking it with a spoon to get a decent wobble. It's still a must-order item for the funny factor!
Our favourite dessert was the Sunny Aloha Chocolate Lava Cake ($22.90). It came with Kumoya's signature buttery cookie, fresh fruit, soft serve ice cream and a cotton candy "cloud".

The lava cake had a rich chocolatey taste with a perfect oozing centre. Totally worth the calories!
All Drinks ($10.90 -$13.90) are served with allocated limited-edition Crayon Shinchan coasters. There are four designs available until stocks last!
Their Piak! Piak! Matcha Frappe ($13.90) comes with the same butt pudding as the dessert. While the pudding is plain on its own, it complemented the matcha flavour perfectly.
