Other than our lists of 10 new romantic restaurants and 10 new pretty cafes that are suitable for Valentine’s Day dates, of all budgets, there are tons of other new cafes and restaurants in Singapore to visit this February 2021. Be it for casual coffee outings, brunch with the girls, or a fancier reunion with friends you haven’t met in a while, there’s something out there for every type of foodie.

#1: Kizuna - cosy pet-friendly Japanese-style joint

It’s hard to describe Kizuna’s ambience in a single word or phrase - simply calling it “semi-industrial” or “minimalist” wouldn’t do justice. Rattan and wooden furniture, textured walls with seigaiha wave patterns, and calligraphy art give it a Japanese vibe, but this isn’t your regular Nippon-inspired cafe for it comes with a modern edge as well.

Whatever it is, this is one cosy space you wouldn’t want to miss out on. Their menu is kept simple, focusing mainly on coffee. Prices are reasonable enough - Black starts from $3, White starts from $4, and Coffee Mocha costs $6.50. Hot Chocolate ($5.5) and Hot Tea ($3.50) are also available.

The food selection is modest, with Lunch Bowls ($9.90) only served on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. On other days of the week, tuck into a Mini Croissant Set ($7.80) with fillings like Ham & Cheese and Slipper Lobster, or simply have a slice of wholesome Banana Bread ($4.80).

The cafe also has its own little retail corner where you can purchase clothes and jewellery.

#2: Seng Coffee Bar - all-day breakfast till 5pm

On the ground floor of a little shophouse in the East is Seng Coffee Bar, and although it’s still relatively undiscovered by the masses, we can already predict that the artsy-looking, boho-style nook where their drink glasses are kept is set to be the next hot photo spot among IG-crazy foodies.

Those who aren’t morning people can rejoice, for their all-day breakfast dishes including the Crab Meat Egg Benedict ($18) and Breakfast Feast ($20) with grilled bacon, cheese sausage, mushrooms, egg, and a bunch of greens will be available till 5pm. Other mains include Pork Belly Risotto ($20) and Salted Egg Chicken Burger ($16).

#3: The Food Peeps - affordable hidden cafe at Tanjong Pagar

Maxwell House is a building we’ve all passed countless times, but most of us don’t give it a second glance. Which is why The Food Peeps, a new coffeehouse and deli hidden in a nook of its first floor, is still a well-kept secret.

Prices here are more affordable than that of your usual Tanjong Pagar cafe’s - Avocado on Toast and Bagelwiches (bagel sandwiches) cost just $12, Spicy Clam Pasta costs $14. The most “expensive” item on the menu is the Big Breakfast Club at $18 - a full set of sourdough, choice of smoked salmon/ham/bacon/mushrooms, choice of eggs, spicy baked beans, grilled halloumi, and side salad.

The blush pink interior of the cafe is cosy and comfortable, but if the weather is good, try opting for an outdoor seat for views of greenery and the colonial Maxwell Chambers just opposite, where Autumn-themed cafe Kreams Krafthouse is.

#4: Syohachi Yakiniku - $22.50 Japanese BBQ buffet with A5 wagyu

When it comes to cuts of beef, nothing can rival Japanese A5 wagyu, with its pristine marbling that brings the perfect amount of sweetness and tenderness. Indulge in that and more at Syohachi Yakiniku, a BBQ-style restaurant with a la carte buffets starting from $22.50.

Apart from a tasting platter with 7 premium items including Japanese Oysters with Herb Butter Sauce, Short Rib, and of course, Premium A5 Japanese Wagyu, this affordable lunch buffet will also give you unlimited servings of all the pork, chicken, seafood, veg, and sides you can eat.

If you want to go all out and focus on only the best, splurge on the a la carte A5 Wagyu Beef Buffet from $70, with a free flow of premium ingredients. This also includes a wider selection of seafood, including sushi.

#5: Degree Celsius - whitewashed coffee bar

Feel your stress dissipate when you step into Degree Celsius. Save for a potted plant and a leafy feature wall, the entire interior of the cafe is whitewashed, but rather than looking overly plain or clinical, this sight is one that’s easy on the eyes.

Sip on their comforting Americano ($3.50), Flat White ($6), or Matcha Latte ($6), and grab a quick Buttery Croissant ($3) or Muffin ($3.50) to go with.

Now, we hate to break your bubble, but they’re only open on weekdays and close at 6pm. However, they do welcome customers as early as 7.30am, so hop on down for a quick breakfast and caffeine boost if you’re headed to work in the vicinity.

#6: Green Common - vegan-friendly eatery & grocery concept store

Green Common is a plant-based eatery and grocery concept store where vegetarians and vegans can go ham on dishes like Omi Musubi (mock spam sushim $9), Hainanese Trick’en Rice ($16), and even Army Stew ($19) - all without worrying about ingredients used.

Finish off the meal with Strawberry Tower, a layered pastry with citrus cream that complements the fresh strawberry chunks.

Though all made with plant-based meat substitutes, the dishes all look so mouthwatering that we bet even hardcore meat eaters would be tempted to try them. To further tempt you, a window seat here will give you the gorgeous view of Sentosa’s waters.

#7: Sushi Masaaki - Japanese omakase restaurant with pink Gucci wallpaper

Have an omakase date like no other at Sushi Masaaki, a Japanese omakase restaurant 2 minutes from Esplanade MRT. While most omakase joints are already on the high-end side to begin with, this one takes the luxuriousness up a notch with pink Gucci wallpaper featuring crane illustrations, and 250-year-old hinoki furniture that will take you back to onsens in Japan.

The restaurant is named after the owner himself, Chef Masaaki, who gained an appreciation for fish in his childhood years through growing up by the Kamo River in Kyoto. It is said that he is an extremely picky eater and only goes for the best, so you can’t expect any less of what he’s serving you either!

#8: Ratio Cafe & Lounge - with robotic arm whipping up coffee & cocktails

Clean and classy with hanging plants for a fresh spot of colour, Ratio Cafe & Lounge is the sort of place any Singaporean foodie would want to swoop in on. But don’t just go there for the vibes, for what makes them stand out from the other cafe openings in town is the fact that all their drinks are prepare by a robotic arm.

That’s right - whether it’s Coconut Milk, a Peppermint Mocha, or Spicy Grapefruit Sunset cocktail, their beverages are all whipped up using very precise AI methods that give the perfect ratio of ingredients. This way, your brews will never be diluted or inconsistent.

Over 50 alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink varieties aside, they also serve small bites like Croissants ($3.50), Walnut Muffins ($3.90), Sandwiches, and Hearty Farro and Roasted Mushroom Salad ($6.90).

#9: For The People - minimalistic cafe with brunch, pastries & craft beer

For The People has gotten their minimalist decor down pat. Case in point: They were used as a shoot venue for a lookbook by a local fashion store. Safe to say, any corner of the cafe will look good on camera, so go on and snap away!

Brunch ends at 4pm, so head down before that for items like Guacamole on Toast ($18), Big English Breakfast ($20), and Coconut Pancakes ($16). Fret not if you can only make it in the evenings, for there will be other mains like the Wagyu Burger ($22) and Crab Meat Aglio Olio ($22) - not forgetting some good ol’ bottled craft beer from $12.

#10: Lobster Air - airline-themed restaurant near Bugis

Miss flying and in-flight dining? Relive those good ol’ days with airline-themed restaurant, Lobster Air, which replicates that whole experience.

The reception counter is set in front of a plane viewing gallery backdrop, while the interior of the restaurant is styled to look like an airplane’s. Even the waitstaff are dressed in uniforms that look like cabin crew outfits!

The menu is split into different sections, including Short Haul for light bites and Business Class and First Class for course menus. As expected, you’ll find plenty of lobster dishes, such as Lobster Salad ($20) and Signature Lobster Toast ($18).

If simple industrial chic interiors, wooden furniture, and potted plants are your kinda thing, head over to The Brewing Ground at Joo Chiat to soak up the vibes. Late-risers can have a lazy afternoon brunch here, for theirs starts at 11am and only ends at 4pm

#12: TCC Art Boutique Caffè - elegant space full of flowers

Walking past the new TCC Art Boutique Caffè concept outlet at Great World City, you probably wouldn’t recognise it as affiliated to The Connoisseur Concerto if not for their iconic yellow logo - and that’s because its ambience differs significantly from the rest of the other branches.

Elegant and feminine, this one has a more “premium” vibe to it, with gold-legged plush chairs and botanical decor all around - perfect for dinner with the ladies!We’re loving the splashes of pink from the blush-coloured chairs and purple orchids.

On top of the usual TCC favourites, this outlet serves 12 new dishes including Mille-Feuille Toast & Egg ($17.00), Broccoli & Cheese Tortilla Bites ($11.80), and Pancake Tiramisu ($13.80).

#13: The Ritual - cafe-bar with chill vibes

As The Ritual’s neon wall art reads: All we have is now. So live in the moment, put your diet aside, and head down to try some brunch bites in their inviting, industrial-minimalist space!

What we’re particularly impressed by is the fact that their Madame’s Truffled Egg Croissant ($18) comes with actual truffle shavings instead of mere truffle oil - and a pretty generous sprinkling of it, at that!

#14: Canopy Garden Dining - picturesque pet-friendly cafe in a park

Exhausted all options from our list of Instagram-worthy al fresco cafes & restaurants? Here’s a new one to conquer. Well, technically Canopy Garden Dining has been around for years at Bishan-AMK park, but their new outlet at HortPark brings yet another breath of fresh air.

This scenic garden cafe is surrounded by plants both outside and inside, and being pet-friendly, it’s a great spot to refuel at with your furkids after a hike at the nearby Southern Ridges.
