#1: Zorba The Greek Taverna - al fresco dining by the riverside

Transport yourself to Santorini in an instant at Zorba The Greek Taverna. With a breezy outdoor patio and blue and white colour scheme iconic to the Aegean island, you won’t even have to imagine hard to pretend you’re out of Singapore. The only thing that will give the game away is the view of the Singapore River, but the waterfront views are romantic nonetheless.

Tuck into Mediterranean dishes like Hummus ($10), Souvlaki (meat skewers, from $16), and Spanakopita (pastries filled with spinach and cheese, $10), and finish it off with a good ol’ Baklava ($10). Many of their ingredients are sourced directly from Greece, so this is pretty much the real deal.

Part of the new 1-Atico which recently took over Salt Grill & Sky Bar’s old space is FLNT, which serves up an unlikely combination of Japanese and Peruvian flavours - talk about taking your date on a wild ride. Being located sky-high on the 55th floor of ION Orchard, the views here are guaranteed to be spectacular, especially if you choose to come just before sunset.

Their 6-course Valentine’s menu for 2021 includes curious items like Momotaro with uni tofu and tuna tataki, as well as Foie Gras with white corn and rocoto yogult - a Peruvian sauce made from peppers. Mains are a choice between Grilled A4 Wagyu Sirloin served sukiyaki style with raw egg yolk and mountain peppers, and Grilled Spanish Acorn-Fed Pork with achiote sauce and eryngii mushroom.

Despair not if you didn’t manage to catch Barbary Coast Ballroom’s Christmas decor and festive drinks, for their grand ambience is set to wow you all-year-round. Unlike some of the gritty bars in the Boat Quay area, Barbary Coast Ballroom has an almost royal air to it, with floral wallpaper, opulent-looking armchairs, and gilded furnishing.

Okay, so we’re cheating a little here, because this is more of a bar than a restaurant. Still, it’s a great place for a dressy V-day date and they do serve bar bites like cured meat platters ($22) and charcuterie & cheese boards (from $50). There are also full dishes like creamed spatzle mac & cheese with butter poached lobsters and mushrooms ($22) so you won’t go hungry.

Cocktails and champagne start from $21 per glass. In a flirty mood? Boldly order the Pea-ness ($23) and see how your date reacts ;) This cheekily-named concoction is a peculiar blend of Perry’s Tot Navy Strength, Beefeater, Lacto-Fermented Apple, Pea Water, and Lemon.

#4: Hathaway - luxurious Bali resort vibes amidst nature

From the outside, Hathaway looks like any other colonial restaurant in the Dempsey area. But step inside and you’ll be met with an interior of rattan, wood, and calming neutral tones - bringing to mind luxurious Bali resort vibes that are sure to offer a respite from your busy life. The lush greenery that surrounds this nook further adds on to that tranquil atmosphere.

Their food can’t be pigeonholed into a single category; It’s part European with a contemporary Asian twist, mixed with Singaporean flavours that we all know and love - truly a trip for the tastebuds.

Something couples can share is a sashimi platter with 6 kinds ($49.90) or 9 kinds ($79.90) of raw fish, all freshly flown in from Japan. You can also get single dishes like Kurobuta Tempura ($12.80) and Fried Oysters ($14.80).

#6: FIRE - Argentinian restaurant with panoramic city views

FIRE is another restaurant housed within the sky-scraping 1-Atico, and similar to FLNT, it pretty much doubles up as an observatory tower of sorts. While more or less similar in ambience to its sister restaurant, FIRE has an even more affluent vibe because of its carpeted flooring and the fact that it’s located further up on the sloping space on the 56th storey, away from the activity at the bar below.

This swanky spot ain’t called FIRE for nothing - they specialise in wood-fired Argentinian dishes, for maximum flavour and texture. Different woods like apple, oak, and almond are used to add a different dimension to each dish.

On the menu for Valentine’s Day 2021 is a 6-course meal including Fin De Claire Oysters with mud crab and lime gratin. Instead of choosing a main dish each, couples will be cosying up over a shared platter of Wood-Fired Argentinian Devesa Grain-Fed Rib Eye, Amelia Park Lamb Rack, and Alaskan Black Cod, along with an assortment of veggies.

Among the other more well-known options like The Summerhouse and Chow Cute dog cafe at Seletar Aerospace Park is 5 by Sans Façon, a new French restaurant that’s still a hidden gem. Like the rest, this is housed in a gorgeous colonial building, which makes it instantly more romantic than any regular restaurant in a mall.

Bonus points: This is a pet-friendly establishment, so your furkids can tag along.

Mains here are in the $20+ range, which is pretty affordable for a special occasion. Look forward to dishes like Grilled Angus Steak ($29), Roasted Seabass ($16), and Half Roasted Chicken With Fresh Herbs ($22), and make sure you try some of their scrumptious pastries and tarts!

The garden courtyard outside is a great place to snap some photos with your partner - you’ll want to do so before heading in for dinner lest it gets too dark after your meal!

#8: Butcher’s Block - BBQ wood-fired steaks

Dark and sophisticated with a hint of sensual - that’s how we’d describe the interior of Butcher’s Block. But of course, one can’t expect any less from a restaurant at the grand Raffles Hotel Arcade.

Meat lovers rejoice, for here is where you can get a hearty slab of BBQ wood-fired steak done just right - smoky and charred on the surface and soft in the centre. These start from $92 for a 180g USDA Prime Beef Tenderloin.

Valentine’s Day set menus cost $228 per person, inclusive of a glass of champagne. While this will certainly set your wallet back a fair bit, it’s a 7-course galore of premium dishes like Marron Lobster with hazelnut and lemon thyme, BBQ Norwegian Turbot with moscato cream and caviar, and Grass-Fed Dry-Aged Vintage Beef with red currant and wine jus.

Nothing screams romance more than the colour pink! Aside from the increasing pool of pink cafes and restaurants in Singapore, there’s also Moonbow, which has recently sprung up at the idyllic Dempsey Hill. Your boyfriend needn't worry, for rather than being loud and in-your-face, the interior of this restaurant is washed in a soft blush pink that’s easy on the eyes.

Plush seats and high ceilings aside, there’s also a feature wall of a tree teeming with delicate while flowers - one of the many photo-worthy corners in this charming space.

You’ll be enamoured by the beautiful plating here, with ingredients arranged like art and creatively presented in picnic baskets and drawers. For Valentine's Day 2021, they're serving up a 6-course menu at $128 per person which includes Oysters with Hokkaido bafun uni. Mains include Adam's Magert de Canard with foie gras and Eve's Black Cod - that's right, you get to enjoy both instead of having to choose one and forgo the other!

While The Orient Express Restaurant is a pop-up, it is our luck that it’ll be around through the Valentine’s Day period till mid-June 2021.

Brace yourselves though - prices are definitely not cheap. A 5-course Valentine’s Day set dinner here starts from $298 per person, inclusive of a glass of wine. But what you’re paying for is not just the one-of-a-kind experience as a whole, but also food whipped up by chef Yannick Alléno - a double 3 Michelin Star holder.
