If you ever feel the urge to gorge yourself on a hearty breakfast and eat yourself happy, here are the eight best cafes and restaurants in Singapore for a Western-style breakfast. That includes everything from full English breakfasts to pancakes, waffles, toast and croissants plus vegetarian options.

#1 Whisk & Paddle

While this riverside café is located in quite an ulu area, the gorgeous view, peaceful atmosphere and their breakfast make a trip there worth it.

The Eggs Benedict ($14.80) come with two perfectly poached eggs on a half waffle and a choice of smoked salmon, ham, thick-cut bacon or sautéed mushrooms. Another all-day breakfast item is the French Toast or Full Waffle with Sea Salt Butter & Syrup ($10.80) with optional add on bacon and eggs. Although they look like a run-off-the-mill Western-style breakfast, the thicc slice of bacon and sea salt butter give them an extra oomph.

If you're feeling more ambitious, go for their scrumptious Whisk Breakfast Pan ($20.80) which is served on weekends and public holidays until 3pm. It includes a smoked pork sausage, bacon, sautéed mushrooms, corn, salad, artisan bread and eggs. Although that looks like a lot of food, it has a good balance of flavour without too much grease so there's no post-meal fatigue or bloating.

Psst, it's also great for lone diners, especially the seats right next to the railing facing the river. Check out some other restaurants that are great for solo dining.

#2 Starter Lab

Hailing from Bali, Indonesia, Starter Lab is probably one of the most popular bakeries in Singapore for sourdough bread. We also featured them on our list of best bakeries with delivery. Made of wild yeast and through a slow fermentation process, their wholesome sourdough loaves have a crunchy crust and a soft and flavourful inside.

The sourdough bread is used for a variety of breakfast items like the aptly named Posh Toasts served all day long. Some highlights are the Mascarpone Posh Toast ($14) topped with Coastal Wildflower honey, Avocado Bawang ($12) with fried shallots and siracha, and the Salmon Smørrebrød ($16) with house-made dill creme fraiche and pickled cucumber and radish. Trust us, the taste is atas enough to warrant those prices!
