Halloween is happening in a month’s time, and although Halloween Horror Nights 2020 isn’t happening due to COVID-19, there are still ways to celebrate the occasion - one of which is to head out at night and spot the rare blue moon that will be appearing on 31 October itself.

Those keen on something spookier as a “pre-game” to the actual event can join a night walk at the supposedly haunted Old Changi Hospital happening on 17 October 2020. It’s arguably Singapore’s most haunted spot, so go only if you have a strong stomach!

Back in the day, the Old Changi Hospital functioned as a military hospital for over 50,000 prisoners of war during the Japanese Occupation.

It is rumoured that the Japanese Secret Police, aka the Kempeitai, used parts of it as a torture chamber to extract information from the prisoners - especially since the compound had a particular small room with high, narrow windows, with chains hanging from the walls and bloodstains on the floor.

After the premises were vacated and abandoned years later, there have been reports of the paranormal, from ghost sightings to wailing noises - even till this day. These are believed to be from the spirits of those who died at the hospitals in the past, their souls still tortured and wandering.

Held by local exploration group Explorer SG, this night walk will cover the main and back entrances of the hospital, and will not involve entering the hospital itself. However, it might still give you a good chance to spot the supernatural, so show up with lots of courage and keep your wits about you!

The walk will span over 5km in total, over 1.5 hours from 7pm to 8.30pm on 17 October 2020, starting from Changi Village.

Sign-ups are supposed to be open until 15 October, but only 10 spots are available and all have been filled up. As of now, there are over 430 interested parties in the waitlist. Spots will open for those in the waiting list should anyone choose to drop out beforehand.

If you don’t want to leave it up to chance, perhaps you can organise your own mini night walk event with your friends and get spooked together.
