First Ever IKEA Convenience Store Opens In Harajuku In Tokyo, Japan

IKEA is not simply a furniture store, it's an experience! But as much as we all love lounging in the showroom and chowing down on Swedish meatballs, a visit to IKEA usually needs a good few hours dedicated just for it due to its ulu location and maze-like store layout.

But now, an IKEA outing can be as casual and quick as going to a convenience store thanks to the new IKEA Harujuku store in Tokyo, Japan that just opened on 8 June 2020!

A 2,500 square-metre IKEA store has just opened in the heart of Tokyo and in one of the most popular tourist spots - Harajuku! A one-minute walk from Harajuku Station will take you to the store.

The 1st floor has been dubbed the 'convenience store' because of how easy it is to buy something quickly and go! You can speedily shop for affordable and sustainable products such as palm-sized eco bags, freezer bags made of plant-based materials and plant-based ramen.

There's also a coffee stand where you can get takeaways for coffee, cinnamon rolls and plant-based soft serve ice cream. If you're vegetarian and struggling to find food options in Tokyo, you could add this to your itinerary! Here are some of the food highlights from the convenience store:

Besides the convenience store, there's also a 152-seater Swedish cafe on the 2nd floor where you can enjoy a light meal. The menu is plant-based and includes Tunnbröd, a traditional Swedish dishes made with flatbread and this Harajuku store is the only IKEA outlet where you can find it!
