Korean horror movies are often mixed with multiple layers of themes to evoke different emotions in viewers with just one film, so it's no surprise that they are so popular worldwide.

One of the most popular sub-genres of Korean horror movies is zombie movies. Korean zombie movies have become a phenomenon ever since the success of Train to Busan.

#1 Seoul Station (2016)

Seoul Station, an animated zombie film is the prequel of live-action film Train to Busan and both were helmed by the same director, Yeon Sang Ho. Set in and around Seoul station, the story revolves around Suk-gyu, a father who searches for his runaway daughter who is working as a sex worker. Just as he is about to be reunited with her, a zombie epidemic breaks out in Seoul.

This one is for those who are really afraid of horror because the animation makes it look less realistic, but be warned that reviewers have said that it's as equally thrilling as a live-action film!

#2 Rampant (2018)

Starring established actors such as Hyun Bin and Jang Dong Gun, Rampant is a zombie action film set in the Joseon era. It features the clash between exiled prince Lee Chung and the Joseon Minister of War Kim Ja-joon, with the backdrop of a spreading zombie plague.

Gore mixed with politics, this is the one to watch if you are looking for a movie laced with other themes and not just horror.

#3 The Odd Family: Zombie On Sale (2019)

One look at the poster and you know it's going to be funny. The Odd Family: Zombie On Sale is a zombie comedy film and the story revolves around the Park family whose lives get disrupted after the elderly father gets bitten by a zombie.

This is definitely not your usual zombie movie. It's an entertaining and lightweight watch that will make you laugh till your stomach hurts. Watch this if you have extra time to spare and just want to de-stress.

#4 Kingdom Season 1 & 2 (2019 & 2020)

Kingdom is Netflix's first original Korean series and has two seasons currently. Set during Korea's Joseon period, the first season depicts the story of Crown Prince Lee Chang, who stumbles across a life-threatening political conspiracy while investigating the spread of a mysterious plague. The second season continues to show Lee Chang's struggle to save his people from the plague and his dynasty from the schemes of the powerful Haewon Cho clan.

The series has been positively reviewed and fans are waiting eagerly for season 3! Take the time you have during circuit breaker by jumping on the bandwagon to binge watch this exciting series.

#5 #ALIVE (2020)

A mysterious outbreak suddenly spreads throughout Seoul and rapidly grows out of control, trapping survivors inside their apartments without access to data, wifi, texting, or phone calls.

#ALIVE starring Yoo Ah In and Park Shin Hye will be making its debut on the big screen in June 2020. Although you won't be able to watch it now, this movie is definitely one to add to your watchlist!

#6 Peninsula (2020)

Fans of Train to Busan, this movie is the one to look forward to! Peninsula is the sequel to Train to Busan and the story will take place four years after the events of the first film.
