For some of us, going to IKEA for furniture shopping or a Swedish meatball fix means travelling from one end of the island to the other. But West-siders will soon have a brand new outlet practically at their doorsteps, with IKEA’s third outlet setting up in 2021.
The furniture store will span across 3 levels at shopping mall Jem - taking over Robinsons which will be closing down in August 2020, after 8 years of operation since the mall first opened 2013.

Looks like non-drivers can heave a sigh of relief. Jem is directly connected to Jurong East MRT station, making this new IKEA outlet the first one in Singapore with easy access via public transport.
Currently, the existing 2 outlets are a tad out of the way for those without cars. IKEA Alexandra is a good 20-minute walk from Redhill MRT, while IKEA Tampines requires you to take a shuttle bus from various MRT stations in the vicinity.

While the 3-storey floor space will be significantly smaller than that of the other 2 outlets, the full range of furniture and home items will be present so Westies need not miss out on any offerings.
Sadly, there will not be a kiddy play area for the young ones, nor an in-house warehouse.

However, you can rejoice knowing that the Jurong outlet will have an IKEA Restaurant for your fill of their ever-popular meatballs, fried chicken wings, and Daim almond cake. So there’s every reason to pop by on a whim, even if you’re not seeking out furniture for a home makeover.
