This article is only for the ladies (or the gents who dress out of the conventional norm)!

Read on to find out more!

#1 Follow the dress code

This is fairly obvious, but if there is a specific dress code, you won't go wrong when you follow it!

When there isn't a dress code, that's when things get tricky. Keep scrolling to find out what to wear if that's the case.

#2 Don't wear white, off-white or ivory

White dresses are cute, but the last thing you want to do is wear the same colour as the bride, who should be standing out at the centre of attention on her special day! This also applies to colours like off-white, ivory or any light colour that looks close to white.

If you like the look of these understated colours, go for neutral colours like salmon pink, grey and light brown like this ASOS DESIGN pleated maxi dress ($77.81).

#3 Avoid revealing outfits

Your super short dresses, micro shorts and clothes with plunging necklines can stay at home where it belongs! Basically, don't wear anything that could draw attention away from the bride and groom on their big day.

If you want to show off a bit of skin, go for clothes that have cut-outs, off-shoulder designs or sheer fabric. This Gracelyn tulle dress in pink floral ($68.90) by MDS Collections shows off just the right amount of skin while still being appropriate for most weddings.

#4 Dress for the time & venue

If the wedding is held in the day and at an informal venue, you can wear your favourite dress, skirt or pants in a more casual fabric like cotton or linen. Try this pink Estrella linen dress ($39.90) by The Closet Lover or this Love, Bonito Jasmine pleated A-line midi skirt ($53.90). Avoid wearing anything with sequins or too much glitter as it might look out of place in a casual daytime wedding.

Even if it's a very informal event, it's best to avoid jeans, sweatpants or open toed sandals out of respect for the bride and groom.

If it's held in a fancy restaurant at night, you can go all out with a more formal outfit with maxi dresses, high heels and jewellery. This ASOS DESIGN maxi dress ($92.64) has a lovely satin material and a thigh-high split to show off your legs. When in doubt, you can't go wrong with a classic LBD like this Missguided bardot maxi dress ($40.76) and this Zara tulle dress ($89.90) with embroidered flowers.

Don't forget rompers and jumpsuits! Choose one that is a little more dressy like this ASOS DESIGN cami jumpsuit ($129.90) covered in sequins or this MDS Collections Melorie pleated lace romper in blue ($56.90). This is your time to dress to kill, so don't miss it!

For weddings held in a religious venue like a church or mosque, it's best to be a little more covered up at the shoulders and avoid wearing dresses that are too short. We love the dusty mauve colour and flowy silhouette of this ASOS DESIGN maxi dress in mauve ($83.37).

For garden weddings, wearing stiletto heels may not be a good idea as walking could be a challenge when you're sinking into the grass with every step! If you want to wear heeled shoes, wedges or chunky heels are a better option. We love this Charles & Keith Grosgrain bow wedge heel ($56.90).

#5 Bring a small bag

A large bag may look out of place in a wedding venue and damper your overall look.

Carry a small clutch or a small cross-body bag instead! All you need to bring is your keys, cards, phone and a few makeup products for touchups. Try this Mango chain faux leather bag ($79.90) that is versatile enough to go with any outfit.

Of course, there are exceptions to these rules. Some of these won't apply if the dress code specifically states to wear white or denim, or if the wedding is particularly quirky.
