5 Ways To Stop Your Makeup (Or Skin) From Getting Oily & Shiny
It's just annoying when you invest in a concealer, a foundation in the hope of making your skin look better. In the end, it turns out to be a disaster when they clump up or oxidise midday. Apart from choosing the right foundation, here are some things you can do to avoid oil patches and unwanted exaggerated pores!

Let's start with skincare.
1. Exfoliate Your Face Weekly
If you do not, you really should. This step will remove dead skin from your face and instantly smoothen your skin on the surface level. In fact, the dead skin cells will build up. So, make it a habit to exfoliate (or use a scrub) once a week. This is the easier skincare routine essential for flawless skin. You can use any exfoliator or scrubs! A good recommendation is this bottle of Natural Aqua Gel that you can easily get from any Watsons/Guardian store.
Directions: Wash your face and towel dry well. Pump a dab of gel on your finger. Apply on your face and massage in a circular motion for 30 to 60 seconds to remove dead Skin. Rinse face with water.
2. Use Oil Blotting Paper
With or without makeup, lightly pat your face with the oil blotting paper, focusing on areas which are more oily (eg. T-zone, side of the nose and chin). Instead of using the regular oil blotting paper, you can get the powdered ones from Sasa that cost only $2.90. It is fantastic because of its dual-use! The powder will also act as a loose powder for you midday to absorb the oil and it wouldn't 'leave a hole' if you have makeup on. A nice cover-up. It helps you to feel 'dry' and non-oily instantly, regardless if you have makeup on or not.
Let's talk about makeup now.
3. Use A Setting Spray BEFORE Your Makeup
Yes, you read it right. Usually, people use setting spray after the makeup is done. But one more step. Use it before your makeup as well to create a barrier against the seeping oil before you layer on your makeup. It helps with reducing unwanted shine and it gives you better comfort throughout the day. This is especially good for Singapore's humidity and temperature.
Mac Fix+ is a good recommendation. Everyone's skin is different, so try a few different setting spray and determine which works best for you.

4. Oil Blotting Pact
Many people have not heard of the oil-control powder pact. It is not the same as foundation. It acts as a barrier to suck up the oil during the day so your makeup will last longer. Simply pat a light layer of such oil-control pact before foundation. This one-step in your makeup routine will surely help you to feel and look more comfortable! A makeup saving grace for oily skin.
5. Use Liquid Foundation + Loose Powder
This is the recommended type of foundation to use to avoid 'textured skin'. It is the best for oily/combination skin. To avoid cakey and clumpy makeup, apply a light layer of mattifying liquid foundation and finish it off with loose powder.
This Maybelline's Fit Me foundation is a good drugstore choice of foundation. You don't need to get an expensive foundation to achieve the flawless look.
Some of the biggest contributor to cakey/clumpy makeup is a thick layer of foundation, harsh strokes/pressure during the application and natural oils during the day. So avoid thick makeup girls, it never looks good!
Follow these steps and you can say goodbye to the picture on the left!
