Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s real-life nephew, plays the lead role. The trailer kicks off with Michael in the studio with Quincy Jones (Kendrick Sampson), who says, “I know you’ve been waiting a long time for this. The tracks are made, the songs are ready. Let’s take it from the top.” It then shows quick flashes of Michael’s childhood, iconic performances, and famous music videos like Thriller, all set to his 1982 hit Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’.

Michael follows his journey from a young frontman of the Jackson Five to a global superstar. It dives into his personal life, creative drive, and some of his most legendary moments on stage.

The film also stars Miles Teller as his lawyer John Branca, Colman Domingo as his father Joe Jackson, Nia Long as his mother Katherine Jackson, Jessica Sula as his sister LaToya Jackson, Larenz Tate as Motown founder Berry Gordy, Laura Harrier as music executive Suzanne de Passe, and Kat Graham as Diana Ross.

Lionsgate will release Michael in cinemas on 24 April 2026, instead of its original 3 October 2025 date. The team finished filming in May 2024, then went through extra shoots. There were rumours about splitting it into two films, but the trailer shows it’ll be one.

John Logan (Alien: Covenant, Rango) wrote the script. John Branca, Graham King, and John McClain produced it, while David B. Householter served as executive producer.
