By Zoe Zeng on 22 Jan 2025

Ladies, we have good news: gone are the days of boring Lunar New Year dinner menus, featuring the same old Chinese-style fare that nobody likes — except maybe that one relative with questionable tastebuds, because yes, we all have one of those. In fact, competition is so stiff this year that we had a pretty tough time rounding up just 7 of our favourites.

Still haven’t locked down a spot for your 2025 reunion meal? Fear not, we’ve rounded up the best restaurants that will impress your fussy uncle, foodie cousin, and picky BFF alike. From traditional feasts with a twist to Instagrammable bites that are just fire emoji, these are the places you’ll want to book ASAP.

1. Meow Barbecue

If your family can’t resist a good barbecue plus adorable cat characters, Meow Barbecue is where it’s at. This cosy eatery combines the sizzling theatrics of Korean BBQ with cat-themed decor that’ll have your younger cousins snapping away before you can say 'Happy CNY!'

For their special CNY menu available from now till 9 February, diners can indulge in a Lucky Snake Can Platter at a special price of $88 (U.P. $128) — a feast packed with premium cuts of meat and grilled delights. Pair it with their super cute Prosperity Yu Sheng for just $38, a picture-perfect starter to ring in the Year of the Snake with flair.

But wait, there’s more! Every Lucky Snake Can Platter purchase allows you to enter their Hong Bao Wall lucky draw, with real gold among the prizes! Spend $150 and get a sure-win draw entry, or spend $300 to double your luck with two entries. Feeling competitive? Order their Cheese Corn and tag @meow_bbq on Instagram. If you can pull the cheese 50cm or more, this dish is totally free! (Otherwise, it’s still a steal at 50% off the usual $6.80.)

2. Soup Restaurant

Ready to embrace all the lo hei vibes? Soup Restaurant is ready to impress with their Abundance Dine-In Set, featuring the all-new Truffle Abalone Seafood Pot. Think of it as a treasure chest of deliciousness — 10-head abalone, juicy tiger prawns, roast pork, and more premium goodies slow-brewed in a rich truffle chicken broth for four hours. The aroma is a straight-up chef’s kiss.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a Soup Restaurant celebration without their iconic Samsui Ginger Chicken. Pair it with their luxe Baby Abalone & Salmon with Crispy Yam Yu Sheng, plus comforting faves like Collagen Fish Maw Soup and Double Happiness Steamed Rice. Finish strong with the Double-Boiled Snow Pear with Tangerine Dessert for a refreshing end to your feast.

But if the thought of entertaining your fam at home has you spiraling, don’t stress. Soup Restaurant’s Reunion Takeaway Menu is here to save the day with frozen goodies like the Abalone Seafood Pot and Pork Trotter with Broccoli, plus their cult-fave Nanyang Love Letters. Bonus: their angbaos this year feature artwork by local artist Lee Jun Le, so your reunion is not only delicious but also low-key artsy.

PSA: Singapore’s culinary scene just got spicier with the arrival of CHEFLAM’S 兰堂川菜, the first overseas outlet by legendary Sichuan chef Lam Shan. With a wide array of popular and authentic Chinese-style dishes, this joint has a casual and relaxed atmosphere, making it ideal for those who want to enjoy great dishes without visiting an upscale restaurant. The best part: you can indulge in his signature creations starting from just $18.90. Because who said great food has to break the bank?

We recommend picking Dongpo's Golden Soup with Pickled Fish ($29.90) for a combination of sour and savoury flavours, mouthwatering Gold Medal Kung Pao Chicken ($16.80) or Geleshan Laziji ($23.80), and a sweet and refreshing plate of Cherry Tomatoes in Osmanthus Honey ($9.90). There are also plenty of refreshing beverages (served in huge glasses!) to choose from, featuring fresh fruits like grapes.

This upcoming addition features a fragrant rice cracker layer cracked over a pot of fresh and succulent seafood in a savoury broth.
