This Relaxing Scalp Treatment Comes With A Mini Massage, Yukata-Wearing Experience, Tea & Snacks
I’ll admit it, my haircare routine is less of a carefully tailored process and more of a use-whatever-is-affordable-and-trendy sort of affair. After all, not many of us have the time or energy to spare on a lengthy haircare routine at the end of a long day. I figured that as long as my tresses looked clean and voluminous, there was probably nothing to worry about.
Still, I was surprised — and mildly horrified — to learn that my scalp was not only oily, the sebum was actually affecting the growth of baby hairs and causing my hair to thin. Thankfully, this was revealed to me during my visit to Oscar Head Spa, which was recommended to me by a friend for their quick and fuss-free scalp treatments.
While their treatments are super efficient and take an average of just over an hour, these sessions are also very relaxing and can be customised to target a range of individual scalp issues, like thinning hair and hair loss. Here’s how my experience went!

Getting to Oscar Head Spa’s Clarke Quay outlet was a breeze, seeing as it is located conveniently outside the MRT station. Upon arrival, I was instantly transported to Santorini by the spa’s blue and white interiors and Greek cave house theme.
Their friendly staff then greeted me with a cup of floral tea and I was shown into a spacious seating area offering a lovely view of the Marina Bay skyline.

Next was the consultation, which consisted of a quick scalp scan that showed the oil buildup at the root of my hair. While regular cleaning could keep the worst of it at bay, the stubborn clogs needed periodic deep cleansing to remove.

The hair specialist explained that the thick and fluffy hair I took pride in was actually growing thin over time due to the clogged follicles, which made her recommend the anti-ageing scalp treatment.

Like all of Oscar Head Spa’s scalp treatments, this one uses only products with plant-based ingredients that are safe for everyone, even expectant mothers and young children. After changing into a disposable dress and lying down on the treatment table, I was treated to a hair wash followed by a head and scalp massage.

Then came a quick scalp gua sha session, which aids in increasing blood circulation and relieving tense muscles. A scalp scrub was next, which helped to rid the scalp of impurities and oil plugs. Once that was done, an ampoule was sprayed onto my scalp and my hair was left to steam for around 15 minutes. I also received an arm and neck massage, which had just the right amount of pressure to relieve my stiff muscles, gained from looking at a monitor all day.

Each step felt so comforting and soothing that I was nearly lulled into sleep! Plus, I felt extra relaxed thanks to the colourful mood lighting, which projected galaxy-like patterns onto the walls and ceiling.
The scalp treatment wrapped up with a second hair wash, complete with a rose-scented shampoo. My hair was then blow-dried and a leave-in hair ampoule was applied to my scalp.

Finally, I was shown another scan of my scalp. Not only was it clear of oil buildup this time, but the hair follicles were visibly cleaner and healthier-looking.
I felt no trace of oiliness or discomfort after the treatment, and my hair felt much more moisturised and smooth — most importantly, I did not lose any of my usual hair volume and my bangs in particular remained airy and bouncy.

I picked a yukata with a blue and pink floral pattern to wear over my clothing and was expertly dressed within minutes by a staff member. She also styled my hair and added complimentary accessories with truly impressive speed.
The completed outfit was perfect for showing off my newly-refreshed hair and scalp, as my mane definitely looked shinier and healthier in pictures. I was also served a warm drink, a platter of fresh fruit and some cake to enjoy, and enjoying them was a great way to unwind after the treatment.

Overall, my scalp felt fresh and revitalised after just one session, and the pleasant fragrance from the hair products lingered well into the next day, earning me a couple of compliments from friends and coworkers.
