You may have recently noticed a few extra strands of hair in your brush or perhaps, an entire clump of hair collected in your shower drain. Either way, witnessing the first signs of hair loss can be a panic moment for many of us.

Hair loss is increasingly becoming a problem for women as early as in their 20s. Recent research has estimated that more than 50 percent of women can expect to experience noticeable hair loss in our lifetime.

But before you ask yourself “Am I going bald?”, it’s important to get to the root of the problem and address it head-on (pun intended!).

From managing your stress to clinically-proven hair treatments, here are four ways you can cope with hair loss to regain your crowning glory.

Psst...here's your chance to get a customised hair treatment at just $40 (U.P. $309) with a FREE Hair Care Kit! To sign up for a trial, head to this link – you could also win a cruise getaway for two! ?

1. Be gentle with your hair

Excessive heat styling, colouring, and chemical treatments can wreak havoc on your locks. Sometimes, it can also be your too-tight ponytails and updos. All these can make your hair more brittle, damaged, and prone to breakage – leading to thinning hair and in some extreme cases, traction alopecia (a type of hair loss that results in a receding hairline).

Like with your skin and the rest of your body, it pays to be gentle with your hair. Limit the use of hair dyes and heat styling devices like hair dryers and flat irons. If need be, always use heat protectants before styling to protect your hair against high temperatures.

2. Manage your stress levels

Long working hours, tight deadlines, juggling many responsibilities…it’s no surprise that many of us suffer from stress. What’s surprising, however, is that stress has a direct link to your hair. Telogen effluvium occurs when stress or trauma disrupts the normal cycling of the hair follicle to trigger hair loss.

Managing stress is easier said than done but there are small steps you can take that can help. These include meditation, journaling, counselling, and other coping measures that can calm your nerves and slow down this type of hair loss.

3. Watch your diet

You are what you eat. While you can’t change factors like age and genetics when it comes to hair loss, one factor you can have more control over is your diet.

Studies have shown deficiencies in essential vitamins can contribute to hair loss. If you find yourself lacking any of these nutrients, try adding foods such as eggs, leafy greens, nuts, fatty fish, and berries to your diet. Similarly, you can also opt for health supplements that contain key ingredients like biotin, folate, B12, iron, and zinc.

4. Seek professional help

Above all else, nothing beats the help of hair professionals. Experts believe that addressing hair loss early on is the key to addressing what may seem inevitable. The longer the delay, the harder it may be to fight the effects of hair loss.

Topp Care Hair Solutions is one such trusted name that aims to provide holistic hair solutions for all.  Certified by the US Trichology Institute and a member of the British Herbal Medicine Association, the company incorporates natural Western Botanicals to address a variety of hair issues such as hair loss, greying, thinning, and dandruff.

For those suffering from hair thinning and hair loss, Topp Care’ Customised Botanical Scalp Purifying Treatment aims to get to the root of the issue. Each treatment is fully customised according to each individual – so you can be assured that your hair and scalp needs will be fully addressed and treated.

For years, I have suffered from scalp issues and lately, I’ve also noticed patches of thinning hair around my hairline and parting. That’s why I jumped on the chance to try a session at Topp Care – and I was pleasantly surprised by the visible results!

Customised scalp solutions

Every session at Topp Care begins with a consultation by scanning and analysing customers' scalp and hair follicles to identify areas of concern. The results showed that I have an oily scalp, blocked pores, some dandruff, and (as I suspected) hair loss.

Thus began my 90-minute customised treatment. First, a Dead Sea Mud Masque was applied to my scalp for 20 minutes. Perfect for oily scalps and clogged pores like mine, this deep cleansing masque is rich in minerals such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium to detoxify my scalp, while the fine mud grains unclog pores, exfoliate and absorb impurities from my scalp. I especially enjoy the mask’s cool, minty effect on my scalp.

Following a wash and blow dry, my hair and scalp specialist then applied a special Hair Fall Ampoule to my scalp – focusing on my hairline and parting (aka my ‘problem areas’). It is formulated with Panax Ginseng root extract and Allium Cepa Bulb Extract: two key ingredients with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help promote hair growth, and improve blood circulation and hair density. To further improve absorption of the ampoule, I was then treated to a scalp massage – a thoroughly relaxing experience that almost put me to sleep!

The final step was a 20-minute laser treatment. Outfitted like a helmet, this treatment emits low-level lasers to stimulate the scalp and hair follicles to promote fuller and denser hair growth.

The results

A post-treatment scan revealed the startling results. The visible oil plugs surrounding my hair strands were now gone, and my hair looked much cleaner and healthier. While it would take more sessions to address my hair loss, my scalp felt noticeably cleaner and less irritated – which is essential as healthy hair starts from a healthy scalp. To continue my scalp hair journey, I was given Topp Care’s Hair Fall Rescue Shampoo and the Repair Conditioner to take home.
