In a fictional world where Doraemon’s Anywhere Door exists, many of us would probably teleport ourselves right over to Japan in an instant - bypassing all the mandatory health tests and tour agent bookings. Well, that’s obviously just a daydream, and we’re staying put for now until free-and-easy travel resumes. But Japan hasn’t forgotten us - in fact, they’ve chosen Singapore to be the first overseas pitstop for their famous Doraemon Exhibition.

First opened in 2022 and refreshed in 2017, Japan’s Doraemon Exhibition has since travelled to 9 cities within the country. This November 2022, they’re bringing this two-part attraction to the National Museum of Singapore with quirky contemporary art, original drawings, and a range of exclusive merchandise in a limited-time pop-up that will run till 2023.

Note: Photos used are for illustration only. Actual exhibition might differ slightly.

P.S.: If you're more of a Despicable Me fan, check out the new Minion's Perspective exhibition with 8 themed zones that's also running till early 2023.

Some of you might recall the previous Doraemon exhibition in 2020, also held at the same museum. No, this isn’t going to be a repeat of that. While that centred around a time-travel theme, this new Doraemon Exhibiton in Singapore for 2022 is focused on artwork featuring the blue robot cat. Both segments are accessible via a single ticket, so it’s almost like a 2-in-1 deal.

The first portion, titled “MANGA DORAEMON” will showcase original drawings by none other than Fujiko F Fujio, the manga artist of Doraemon.

The other section, “"Create Your Own Original Doraemon", will feature contemporary art by 28 Japanese artists who’ve put their own spin on the anime character. These include works by Takashi Murakami, who’s well-known for his artworks full of repeated floral motifs in psychedelic colours.

There’s also a sullen-looking version of the usually cheerful Dorami-Chan by Yoshitomo Nara, who’s famous for his paintings of children with facial expressions that depict various complex emotions - from sadness to anger and pensiveness.

In addition, there will be a gift store with limited edition collectibles, Singapore-exclusives, and merchandise all the way from the Fujiko F Fujio Museum in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa. Based on the photos from Japan’s edition, fans can probably expect items like stationery, homeware, art prints, and snacks. Hopefully there will be some cute plushies too!

The Doraemon Exhibition in Singapore will be opening its doors at the National Museum this 5 November 2022, and will run until early February 2023, so there’s plenty of time to check it out even if you’re going to be away for long year-end vacations.

Entry to the Doraemon Exhibition is chargeable at $30 per Adult. Tickets for those under 18 are priced slightly cheaper at $25, while little ones under 6 years old get to enter for free.
