For many, the “chou chou”—translating to stinky in Chinese, had been a source of comfort and joy during their younger days. More than a soft toy, the childhood plushie is a security blanket that offers a sense of familiarity when life gets rough.

If yours is looking a little worse for the wear, why not send it to the Soft Toy Hospital? Started by Isaac Kong and Pamela Theng, the home-based business aims to restore, repair, and clean all sorts of toys.

The couple started out as teddy bear artists back in 1996, participated as judges for overseas competitions, and even ran The Singapore Teddy Bear Show to introduce the art of soft toy making to the public.

As a natural progression, they decided to launch the Soft Toy Hospital in 2016, using their crafting skills to nurse one’s soft toy back to health.

Since then, they’ve repaired countless soft toys, whether it’s a broken nose or a missing tail. A picture of the pair dressed up in scrubs like “doctors” graces the homepage of their site, while a teddy bear lies on a hospital bed with its stuffings out.

The list of services mimic that of a real hospital’s, from general surgery to disease management, and even aesthetic. Under general surgery, options include transfusion (change or add stuffing), suture (stitching), and organ transplantation (replacement of parts).

Meanwhile, aesthetic services include hydrotherapy and spa where they’ll clean up your dusty soft toy, as well as costume makeover, where they’ll dress your toy up in a brand-new outfit.

If you’re extra wary about keeping your soft toy sanitary—especially if you’re passing it on to your kids, there’s also the option to add an antimicrobial coating. More interestingly, they also do house calls and “ambulance service”, which probably just means one or two-way delivery of your precious toy.

Prices differ based on your soft toy’s size and condition, with an estimated quote given via WhatsApp before the toy is sent over. Before your soft toy gets “discharged”, expect preview photos and videos of its brand-new look before it’s mailed out.

Their social media accounts showcase impressive before-and-after images of restored soft toys, from those that have been unfortunately mutilated by pets to those subjected to years of wear and tear.

Should your soft toys need a new lease of life, you know where to go!
