8 New Japanese Beauty Launches In SG In May 2022 - Anti-Frizz Hair Care, Perfume, Lifting Lash Primer
We’re back once again with our round-up of new beauty launches for May 2022 and this time, we’re focusing specially on J-beauty - just because we’ve come across that many this month. Well, plus the fact that we’re fans of how Japanese beauty products never disappoint in terms of quality and efficacy. Here are some of the best new Japanese skincare, makeup, hair care, and perfumes that are absolute must-tries - both the drugstore and high-end variety.
#1: Heroine Make - Curl Keep Mascara Base Waterproof
Turns out you can get perky lashes without having to get extensions or a lash lift. All you need is Heroine Make’s Curl Keep Mascara Base Waterproof - a lash primer that coats even the shortest lashes to provide a natural-looking curl and allow your mascara to stand out more boldly. Concurrently, the serum in the formula helps nourish your eyelashes to keep them healthy and less prone to breakage.
Upon using this, I found that my mascara applied more smoothly, without any clumpy bits or my individual lash strands sticking together. This game-changer has since become a staple of my eye makeup routine!
This is available in Clear Black and Clear Brown, and can even be worn on its own sans mascara for just a little subtle definition.
#2: Hair Kitchen
If you haven’t heard of Hair Kitchen before, that’s because they’re a new entrant in Singapore. This sustainable hair care brand mainly makes use of natural ingredients in their formulas, with the logic that since fruits and vegetables can thrive even in harsh conditions, harnessing that same power for our hair would help improve and maintain its quality. An added bonus is that no sulphates, silicones, parabens, and other nasties are used, and their packaging is eco-friendly.
Their lineup is designed around a simple 3-step daily routine: Shampoo to gently cleanse without stripping natural moisture, Treatment to hydrate and nourish each strand of your tresses, and finally, Mist to protect your hair from external aggressors while improving texture.
There’s a range for every type of concern - from oily scalp, to thin and limp hair, to those who’ve undergone chemical treatment - and each one is centred around a couple of key botanical ingredients that smell oh-so-fresh and fragrant.
Get them from selected salons.
#3: d program - Allerdefense Sunscreen range
The sunscreen from Shiseido’s sister brand d program has gotten a level up, whereby other than simply being able to protect your skin from UV rays, it also shields against pollution and grime with a special skin protection layer and anti-static function that helps “repel” dust and fine particles. On top of that, the antioxidant-infused formulas provide hydration and give your complexion a smooth, radiant look.
Those with normal to sensitive skin can go for the Allerdefense Essence SPF 50+ PA+++ ($40.90), while those suffering from dryness can try the Allerdefense Cream SPF 35 PA+++ ($40.90). Craving some coverage? Opt for the tinted Allerdefense BB Essence SPF 50+ PA+++ ($38.90) which conceals pores and blemishes.
Get them from d program’s official LazMall store, or at Watsons and Welcia-BHG and their respective Shopee Mall stores.
#4: LUCIDO-L - Argan Oil Frizz Care Hair Treatment Oil
Adding on LUCIDO-L’s already exensive range of hair serums is the Argan Oil Frizz Care Hair Treatment Oil, specially formulated with a humidity-blocking film to tame those pesky frizzies and flyaways. With a light and non-sticky texture, this locks in hydration to help your locks retain its shine and moisture without weighing it down. The weather ain’t got nothing’ on you now!
#5: Shu Uemura - Brow Sword Naginata
Get killer brows with the Shu Uemura Brow Sword Naginata - an eyebrow pencil with a shape inspired by the historic naginata swords used by samurais in Japan. The sharp tips let you draw strokes of varying thicknesses with utmost precisdion, while the slanted edges allow you to fill in colour in a realistic manner with easy, gliding movements.
It’s meant to last up to 16 hours, and comes in 5 Asian-friendly shades to match various hair colours and skin tones.
Get it from Shu Uermura’s physical stores, Sephora, and Shu Uemura’s official LazMall store.
#6: Flower by Kenzo - Poppy Bouquet Eau de Toilette
Okay, we’re cheating a little here, since Kenzo is technically a French luxury brand. However, it was founded by Japanese designer Kenzo Takada, and includes plenty of Asian influences. Plus, the new Flower by Kenzo Poppy Bouquet Eau de Toilette launch is way too irresistible to ignore!
Bringing to mind strolls through a Japanese flower market, this poppy scent also emphasises floral fragrances of the Damask Rose, Japanese Sambac, and Golden Gardenia, complemented with Tea Leaves and Mandarin Essence. It’s also made without animal-derieved ingredients, with responsible packaging that’s kinder to the earth.
As part of this new launch, the brand has teamed up with minimalist cafe SYIP to come up with an exclusive Kenzo Rose Latte, available till 30 June 2022. Get a free Flower by Kenzo sample vial for every drink (of any flavour) purchased there, while stocks last!
Price: $85 for 30ml, $119 for 50ml
Get it from Sephora, Takashimaya, Metro, and BHG Bugis
#7: Biore - UV Aqua Rich Aqua Protect Lotion
Biore has launched so many different versions of their sunblocks over the years that we can barely keep track of them all! But the skincare-infused Biore UV Aqua Rich Aqua Protect Lotion is one you’d best be paying attention to, especially if you dislike viscous, greasy sunscreens that are heavy on the skin.
With a comfortable water-like texture, this SPF50+ PA++++ sunscreen offers broad-spectrum protection with a special Aqua Capsule Technology which reduces its UV Protect ingredients into nano-sized capsules, thus spreading easily over the skin to create a thin but strong and water-resistant film that’s able to extend to even the hard-to-reach crevices of your face.
Some things we like the most about Japan are their hot springs and nature, and new hair care brand Kusabana blends the best of both worlds in a single nutrient-rich bottle. With key ingredient Yubara Onsen Water, as well as Camellia Oil from Toshima blended with 5 other botanical oils, their shampoos and conditioners help keep the scalp and hair in great shape.
There are currently 4 ranges: Moist & Shine, Damage Repair, Volume & Anti-Breakage, and Deep Cleanse & Refresh, so go on and pick the one that best suits you.
Although this brand is by Guardian themselves, it’s made in Japan, with a large portion of ingredients from there as well.
Price: From $13.50
