Yan Kay Kay (Yan Qi Hua) and Brandon Loh’s relationship first raised eyebrows due to the 11-year age gap between them, but it seems like the naysayers have been proven wrong. Things have been going great for them so far. In 2020, they first showed off a series of steamy maternity photos to announce that they were expecting their first child, Aesop, who is now around 1.5 years old.

Earlier on this year, they posted a gender reveal video which was a whole roller coaster of emotions, with Brandon even wondering whether they were having twins at some point. Much to the couple’s excitement, they were to have a baby girl - and she’s finally made her entrance into the world!

Kay Kay took to Instagram Stories to explain the unique name of choice for her daughter, sharing that they wanted her name to start with the letter “I”. At first, it was supposed to be Isla, which means “Island”, but because Brandon’s surname is Loh, they were afraid that her name would look like “Is Lah Loh”, which would appear “very Singlish”, and risk being mispronounced.

They then turned to Greek names, since Aesop is also a Greek name, and came across Iyla, which means “bright one”. It happens to be pronounced the same way as Isla - that is, “eye-ler” - which is just as well!

The couple seemed to be having a smooth time over the weekend, posting regular updates featuring photos of their newborn daughter and the food served to them at the hospital.

Kay Kay even managed to find the energy to crack some jokes in the wee hours of the next morning after Iyla was born. She likened a photo of her in her hospital gown and wrist tag to her younger days of clubbing, saying, “The curls + the tag + the robe + the timing. If I’m at Sentosa right now, it’s just another Zoukout morning ands we’re all trying to get a cab out. #perspective”.

From what we understand, Aesop was at home being taken care of by someone else for the time being.

While Iyla is, thankfully, generally healthy, Kay Kay did share that she came out with folded ear tips. The correction needs to be done in 2 weeks and the mold required would cost between $800 to $1000, though the doctor mentioned that some parents do use surgical tape to try and reshape their babies’ ears.

Kay Kay has not revealed her decided course of action so far, but has mentioned that this “doesn’t bother [her] that much because it’s just an aesthetic thing” and “it’s quite symmetrical”. She even lovingly referred to her daughter as her “little half elf”, accompanied by the laughing emoji.

A big congratulations to Kay Kay and Brandon, and welcome to the world, Iyla Loh! We can’t wait to see Aesop interacting with his younger sister, and we’re definitely looking forward to seeing their cute sibling shenanigans being captured by their parents!
