Living life by a minimalist philosophy is definitely favourable when you’re residing in a small country like Singapore. With HDB flats becoming smaller and smaller as the years go by, it just won’t do to come home to an abode full of visual clutter. And that’s probably one of the reasons why simple, Scandinavian interiors are ever-popular among young homeowners getting keys to their new BTOs.

This Scandinavian-themed flat is a standard 2-Room BTO located at Dawson Road, designed by a Cal Seow from local interior design company, Weiken.

One thing you’ll notice immediately upon laying eyes on the living room area is the fact that it has a more luxurious appearance compared to many other flats of a similar theme. This can probably be attributed to the fact that only light colours have been picked for the wood grain, and said wooden details only appear minimally - namely in the form of the vinyl flooring and part of the TV feature wall.

This, paired with curved avant garde light fixtures, as well as sleek, contemporary marble-top tables and velvety plush seats, make the apartment look more like a “chic loft” and less “MUJI display”.

The cosy bedroom is similar in style, with both the bed and floor-to-ceiling wardrobe flushed against the wall. Part of the cupboard has a little “cut-out” nook which conveniently serves as a bedside table without taking up any additional space in the room.

The bathroom has a vanity sink with a circular light-up mirror, while the kitchen has 2 separate counters positioned against opposite walls - one for the stove, and one for the sink. A washing machine is inconspicuously hidden in a corner without breaking up the seamlessness of the clean overall design.

According to Weiken, the work scope of this flat’s design comprised of wet works, carpentry, painting, and vinyl flooring. Check out the original post via their Facebook page below:
