This 2D1N Mongolian Yurt Getaway is organised by Beyond Expeditions, a homegrown company that specialises in curated itineraries for outdoorsy adventures in exotic locations like Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Ladakh. Now that those expeditions have come to a temporary halt, they’ve decided to bring that authentic Mongolian experience to sunny Singapore.

Having been to Mongolia countless times, founder Scott Tay - whom you might recognise for making headlines with his fund-raising trek in Mongolia for the Singapore Cancer Society - is well-acquainted with the culture there and even considers it his “second home”. You can thus be sure that this recreated experience will be as close to the real deal as it can get - short of travelling to the idyllic country yourself.

Your yurt will be set up in a grassy campsite in the North of Singapore, with additional tentage overhead just in case it rains. This isn’t your regular hashtag Pinterest Aesthetic glamping tent with fairy lights and a bunch of cushions strewn around. The sturdy, circular yurt is entirely outfitted with Mongolian furnishing - including intricate patterned rugs, wooden beds with floral details, colourful flags, and knick-knacks like singing bowls.

The inner walls of the yurt are also decorated with stunning scenes of Mongolia’s natural landscape, people, and native animals. That, coupled with traditional music playing in the background, will make you feel as though you’re really camping out in the far-flung wilderness.

During your stay, you’ll get to live the pseudo nomadic lifestyle for a day and pick up basic survival skills such as setting up a shelter, chopping wood with a real axe, and starting your own campfire.

Once you’re done with all the legwork, enjoy the fruits of your labor with an outdoor dinner cookout - roasting of marshmallows included! You’ll also get to sip on the Mongol’s local vodka as you watch a classic Mongolian movie on a large projector screen under the stars.

The guides will also be more than happy to chat about their own experiences in Mongolia, including eagle hunting, reindeer herding, and travelling as a nomad. You’ll probably wish to have these special moments captured in photographs, but there’s no need to get caught up with fumbling with your camera, for the guides will gladly serve as your personal photographers. The images will be processed and sent over to you as a souvenir at no extra charge.

Have a furkid you don’t wish to be apart from? This camping experience is pet-friendly, so feel free to bring him or her along! Dogs will certainly have a ball of a time running around in the open field.

The Mongolian Yurt Getaway starts at 10.30am on day 1, with check-out at 10am the next morning. All meals will be provided. It costs $580 per person, but sign up with a friend and you’ll pay just $500 per person. Make a booking for 3 pax or more and it’ll be further discounted at $450 per person. The facility has a toilet with shower, but do note that you’ll have to bring your own toiletries. If the weather is good, you are free to sleep in the open instead of within the yurt. It’ll be a good idea to bring a yoga mat, sleeping bag, or inflatable mattress for that!
