What is TEFL/TESOL Certification?
TEFL and TESOL Certifications are 2 popular teaching certifications but they serve the same purpose. You just have to take either one. Employers don't usually care which course do you take but they care about the number of hours. Make sure you choose the course with at least 120 hours of training.

TEFL Online Course
I completed the 120-hour online course. This is the course that enables me to work in Hong Kong. Now, take a 20% discount through this link. It costs only $239 USD (or $330 SGD) to take the course. (P.S We are in no way affiliated to this course provider)

The course breakdown is found (below). The only hurdle will be to draft your own lesson plan that is subject to approval before you graduate and get the certification. That's the component that took a while before the I am able to complete the course!

No fear, the lecture notes and other helps are pretty comprehensive to get you through. It usually takes about a month for people to finish the course. If you want to finish it fast, I completed it under 2 weeks. Don't worry or feel that you are not good enough. I only got a B4 for my English 'O' Levels. I worked hard and if you do, you can too.

After completing the course, you will receive a certificate that looks like this. Some jobs may require you to have an early childhood background or teaching experience. However, this certification is sufficient for you to work in many places already.

The Tide Has Changed
When we say 'good career', we no longer only think about the strict 9am-5pm routine jobs in CBD areas. Now, there are certainly more options and to each, its own.

In fact, many young people are earning more than those who have worked for years. Not to discredit anyone or any career options, but it is a truth that we need to adapt and grow to eventually be successful in today's age.

Apart from teaching English, there are other career choices that strengthen your flairs and enable you to work abroad or 'work-from-home'.

Note: Please check on the visa and legal requirements of the country you are interested to work in.

Freelancer
Putting aside all stereotypes, there's a market for freelancers and they are always in demand. This includes modelling, photographer, videographer, designer. With a specific skill, you may want to read up more about the culture, people of the country you're interested in and then take flight! Take a step forward and you might carve out a meaningful career.

Analyst
Some of my friends who became a data analyst, financial analyst are given a 'work-from-home' option. As a result, they are able to travel and work from cafes within the stipulated travel time allowed according to their passports. They get paid fairly high in this field. So people with business degrees you can consider this!

Blogger/Vlogger
If you have a flair for writing/picture-taking, vlogging and you love travelling and eating good food. It is possible to turn this passion into work. Be prepared for serious planning, consulting people who worked from home full-time and learn from those who have tried this path.  I have a few friends who took a gap year post-graduation to discover their passion. It starts somewhere and after 10 years, they are still doing it.  Check out Yoyokulala who started out this way and now, is a successful designer, entrepreneur and Fashionista!

Work/Travel Visa
There's an amazing program for wanderlust young adults. You may want to check out Australia/ New Zealand work travel visa. You can travel and work at the same time. Remember, to get a driver's license. If you're under the age of 30, there are many countries you can go to. Click on the link below for the closest work escape from Singapore
